Never having won anything before this was quite a shock for me.
In fact I was in France on holiday at the time, so unexpected was the prize! My Daughter Connie went to receive the award in my stead.
This was the first time I had ever entered or exhibited anything, it was only a year since trying oil painting for the first time, so this success very much encouraged me to become a professional oil painter.
